They're kiiiinda awesome...if you get the right kind.
Aside from the fact that they can be messy, difficult to apply, and a straight-up nightmare to remove, adhesive false eyelashes are great! (Is my sarcasm showing?) But what if I told you there’s a way to get the long, fluffy lashes of your dreams for less money than eyelash extensions and without all the sticky, tricky application? Enter: magnetic lashes. All you do is pop 'em on whenever you want a little extra lash—simple as that. But are they safe? And if so, which ones should you use? I reached out to Ilyse Haberman, MD, an ophthalmologist at NYU Langone Health, to answer all of your burning questions, along with the best kits to buy right now.
Once you discover how easy they are to apply (and how good they look on), you’ll probs want to wear magnetic eyelashes every single day—but please don’t. “I’d recommend limiting the use of the magnetic lashes that sandwich your own natural lashes to avoid the potential of lash damage and traction alopecia,” Dr. Haberman says. Oh, and don’t try them for the first time right before a big event, since there’s always the potential for contact dermatitis or allergy to the product itself, she adds, in which case you should stop using them ASAP.
Other than that, you'll also want to be nice and gentle when it comes to application (more on that in a bit), since your lashes are pretty delicate. Got it? Cool. Keep scrolling for our top nine favorite magnetic eyelashes—along with tips and tricks for using 'em correctly.
