Holby City star Camilla Arfwedson has left the show after four years in the role of Zosia March.

The actress's final scenes aired in Tuesday night's episode (September 26) of BBC One's popular medical drama, as Zosia bowed out from the wards for a fresh start.

Two-part special 'Veil of Tears', which concluded tonight, had focused on Zosia's eventful wedding to her partner Oliver Valentine.

Although the couple did tie the knot, it wasn't long before they reached a heartbreaking crossroads – as Zosia hoped to pursue a new opportunity studying in the US, while Oliver wanted to stay behind.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about her exit, Camilla revealed: "It's been a real honour to play Zosia and to work at Holby. I have loved playing her with all her ups and downs, battles with her mental health and close relationships.

"She has been inspiring and challenging in equal measure. A truly wonderful part to play.

"I hope she comes back to the wards one day, as this is where she grew up and where she found her true love. So, we'll see..."

When Digital Spy caught up with Holby's new producer Kate Hall recently, she warned us in advance that there were exits coming up. Fortunately, she also promised that the door would be left wide open for those going, so it may not be the last we see of Zosia.

Kate told us: "You should always consider the word 'exit' in quotation marks. There are various folk in the show at the moment who we are so lucky to have kept for as long as we have.

"What I always say to any of those who are leaving is that the door is always open and they can come back.

"There are some who are supposedly 'exiting', but are already negotiating guest star returns and when they might want to come back. It's always a real treat for our long-term fans when they see popular faces popping back in."

Holby City airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC One.
