Home and Away's Cash unlikely to survive: 'Dark and emotional'

Home and Away returned on Monday night with a shocking mid-season return, as Cash Newman (Nicholas Cartwright) was shot during the bikie raid.

This week, Cash’s life hangs in the balance, Rose Delaney (Kirsty Marillier) is overwhelmed with guilt, and a new romance blossoms.

After Cash’s heart stops in the ambulance, Rose begs her brother Xander Delaney (Luke Van Os) to save his life. While he makes it to the hospital in one piece, he later goes into cardiac arrest and may not survive.

Kirsty Marillier spoke to Yahoo Lifestyle about what was going through Rose’s head during the emotional storyline.

“As you’ve probably noticed, Rose feels things really deeply, and this situation with Cash brings up a lot for her to process,” she starts.

“She has a great sense of honour when it comes to her police work, so having things go awry at the bikie raid means that Rose is sent to some dark, emotional places.”

The star also spills on what it was like filming the raid and admits that the epic episode felt completely different to a regular day of shooting.

“Filming the mid-season finale/return has been, to date, my favourite day on set. Days like these are often very large in scale,” she tells us.

“We shot in a different location — a fire station out in the bush somewhere, there were a bunch of protocols we had to adhere to, ie, working with an Armourer and generally, the energy of the shoot was different to your usual day in the diner.”

Felicity rips Rose apart

Felicity Newman (Jacqui Purvis) has always been a fiery character, and when she finds out her brother Cash could die, she doesn’t hold back.

Accusing Rose of killing her brother, she points at Rose and spits: “You did this!”

Kirsty says that the heated scene between Felicity and Rose is a ‘complex’ one because they both care so ‘deeply’ about Cash.

“I think internally, Rose knows that Felicity is just lashing out due to fear, but in the moment, she can’t help but take on the blame.

“She feels a huge sense of guilt for what went wrong. Filming the scene itself was illuminating — I felt like I got to the core of Rose’s shadow,” she finishes.

A new romance blossoms

Band members Kirby Aramoana (Angelina Thomson) and Theo Poulos (Matt Evans) are both suffering from broken hearts after being dumped by their partners recently.

Summer Bay’s new romance is set to blossom, as the pair bond over music and heartbreak. It isn't long before the couple finds themselves sharing a steamy kiss.

Theo’s ex-girlfriend Chloe Anderson (Sam Barrett) recently left the sleepy town to escape the bikies wrath, flying to New Zealand.

Sam’s co-stars posted sweet tributes to her after her emotional goodbye, with fans wondering why she left so abruptly.

Her exit may have been fast-tracked to open up the possibility of Theo finding love with the new character. Eagle-eyed fans have spotted Kirby and Theo filming many scenes together, looking cosy out at Palm Beach.

With the show filming approximately six months in advance, this means the couple is likely to go the distance.
