Home and Away star Lynne McGranger is taking a leaf out of Lisa Wilkinson's book — almost literally — by penning her own memoir that's filled with similarly explosive revelations of life behind the scenes.

Lynne, who plays beloved character Irene Roberts on the long-running soap, gave The Daily Telegraph a sneak peek at some of the 'scandalous' secrets uncovered in her book, Acting Up: Me, Myself & Irene.

The 68-year-old opened up about her former marijuana use, admitting that she used to grow the drug in her own backyard.

"It will be totally scandalous and it was not a bit [of marijuana]. I smoked a lot of dope," she revealed. "I just loved it. I would smoke joints."

Before she quit smoking both marijuana and cigarettes in 2005, Lynne says she acted in theatre productions while under the influence.

"I have done theatre stuff stoned, but not Home and Away. I didn't drink you see, so that was my wine."

Lynne also spoke about the eating disorder she experienced from the ages of 15 to 28, decades before she joined the Home and Away cast in 1993.

"I now know that it was a form of bulimia but there was no name for it back then," she said.

Back in August, Lynne posted a video to Instagram announcing she had written Acting Up during lockdown in 2020 and that it would be on shelves on November 2.

The book is described by publisher Allen & Unwin as a 'warm, hilarious and intimate look inside the life of one of Australia's living TV legends.

"With humour, honesty and self-deprecating charm, one of Australia's best known TV actresses lifts the lid on life - both on-screen and off."
