Horror injury ruins NRL player's first game in seven years
A heartwarming return to the NRL has ended with surgery and a long stint on the sidelines for the Melbourne Storm’s Tom Eisenhuth.
The 26-year-old made a five-minute cameo late in Thursday night’s season-opening win over the Broncos.
But it ended in pain after an accidental elbow to the throat, which caused breathing troubles after the game.
Eisenhuth required an operation on a fractured larynx and spent the next four days in hospital, being released on Monday afternoon.
“We were all excited that Tom made his debut for Storm on Thursday, especially after such a long wait between NRL games since his debut in 2012,” Storm football boss Frank Ponissi said.
“It’s very unfortunate that he has suffered this setback.
“Tom has shown us plenty of resilience and determination since he joined us midway through last year.
“We know he will bounce back, but it will take some time.”
Tom Eisenhuth required surgery on a fractured larynx (cartilage in the throat) over the weekend. He has now been discharged from hospital and is out indefinitely. A general recovery range for this injury is 6-10 weeks, although it can be quite varied. Wish him the best with rehab

Eisenhuth made his NRL debut in round 24, 2012 for Penrith against the Warriors.
He remained in the NSW Cup until joining the Storm last year.
Dragons star’s horror low blow
Tyson Frizell has undergone surgery on his testicles after copping an accidental blow to the groin in St George Illawarra’s loss to North Queensland.
Frizell reeled out of an attempted tackle on Cowboys fullback Jordan Kahu and follow up scans resulted in the State of Origin star going under the knife.
He took to Instagram on Sunday, alongside a picture of him in a hospital bed with his son, to say: “Not an ideal start to the 2019 season but so grateful to have you (wife Sammy) and the little man by my side to put a smile on my face.”
