Hustlers director Lorene Scafaria has responded to reports that there was tension on set between two of the film's stars, Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu.

Rumours of an apparent dispute between the two actresses began to circulate after it was reported that Wu demanded top billing over Lopez.

But Scafaria has rubbished those reports, stating she was personally insulted by the insinuation that there was any unrest on her set.

Speaking to BuzzFeed News, she said: "Honestly when I heard about it, it was such an insult to my set, because I don't run things like that. I love to work with actors of all kinds who need different things, but everybody got along so great on this.

She added: "Jennifer and Constance really did have that chemistry and that relationship right away. It's kind of hard to fake that, to be honest."

In response to the claims that she demanding top billing over Lopez, Wu recently told The Guardian: "I wasn’t demanding anything.

"The reason that happened was because people on the team were calling journalists because they were not putting me in [their stories about the film]. It wasn’t anything I asked them to do."

Hustlers – which tells the story of a group of exotic dancers who team up to steal from their rich Wall Street clients – has been mostly well received by critics, with some calling for Lopez and the film to receive Oscar recognition.

Hustlers is in cinemas now.
