Isaiah Thomas is getting another shot in the league this season.

Thomas, after a 10-day deal with the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this month, signed a 10-day hardship deal with the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Thomas joined the Mavericks in time for Wednesday night’s game against the Kings in Sacramento. He put up six points and had four assists in 13 minutes in their 95-94 loss to the Kings.

Dallas, like nearly every other team in the league, has had a number of players enter COVID-19 health and safety protocols this month. Boban Marjanovic and Brandon Knight entered on Wednesday, bringing the team’s current total to seven. Nine Mavericks players, including Luka Doncic, have entered this month in total.

Thomas has been trying to make a return to the NBA in recent months after a string of injuries slowed his career down. Thomas hasn’t played more than 40 games in a season since the 2016-17 season with the Boston Celtics, when he averaged a career-high 28.9 points and 5.9 assists per game and helped lead them to the Eastern Conference finals.

Thomas signed a brief deal with the Lakers earlier this month, and averaged 9.3 points and 1.5 assists in four games.The two-time All-Star has averaged 18 points and 4.9 assists in 532 career games with the Kings, Suns, Celtics, Cavaliers, Nuggets, Wizards and Pelicans — who he last played in the league for on a 10-day deal in April.

Metu lifts Kings past Mavs with wide open buzzer beater

The Mavericks needed just one last stop to get past the Kings at the Golden 1 Center on Wednesday night.

But when it mattered most, they left Kings forward Chimezie Metu wide open in the corner.

Metu, right as the buzzer sounded, drilled a perfect corner 3-pointer to lift the Kings to the one-point win.

Metu finished the night with 11 points and eight rebounds, and shot 3-of-5 from behind the arc. The 24-year-old entered the night averaging 9.1 points and 6.6 rebounds for the Kings while shooting just about 24% from the 3-point line.

De'Aaron Fox led the Kings with 16 points, and Harrison Barns finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Sacramento has now won two straight, following their six-point win over the Thunder on Tuesday.

Jalen Brunson dropped 25 points to lead the Mavericks in the loss, and Kristaps Porzingis finished with 24 points and seven rebounds. Dorian Finney-Smith added 11 points, and was the only other Mavericks player to score in double figures.
