A Paradise boy, who had a community rally around him and won over the hearts of many, has died at the age of 11.

"We are now Team Jake Forever. Jake passed peacefully away on Nov. 2 at 8:01 a.m. He left this world with his momma lying in bed holding him, and his brother holding his hand," his mother Lisa Loveless-Hodder posted on Facebook on Sunday afternoon.

"Noah said it best, 'You're free. You're free.'"

Jacob Anstey suffered a cardiac arrest in January. His heart stopped for over 10 minutes and the lack of oxygen left him with global brain damage. After months in hospital, he was released, but was left needing a wheelchair.

When Jacob came home, his family faced more problems. Finding accessible transportation proved to be a struggle.

In response, in September, two local businesses — Get Messy N.L. and Bursey's Bus Service — partnered together to donate an accessible van to the family.

A visitation was held at Barrett's Funeral Home on Monday. The funeral is Tuesday afternoon at the Salvation Army St. John's Temple.

"From his first breath, Jake was faced with many challenges, and he faced them bravely and overcame many obstacles. Jake had an enormous will to live, and the life that he lived was joyful, brave and determined," Jacob's obituary reads.
