James Van Der Beek 'Is Still Relishing' Impressive Canyon Vacation with All 5 of His Kids

James Van Der Beek is reminiscing on one of his epic family vacations.

The Pose star and his wife Kimberly Van Der Beek took a road trip to Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada near the end of 2018 — with all five of their children in tow!

During the vacation, their kids — son Joshua, 6, and daughters Olivia, 8, Annabel, 4, Emilia, 2, and Gwendolyn, 7 months— enjoyed explored the canyons and eating salads in an RV.

Around a week after he returned home to Los Angeles from his getaway, James, 41, shared a series of photos from the trip, which included a sweet full-family shot and photos of the kids taking in the sights.

“My head is very much back in the game… but my heart is still relishing last week,” the Dawson’s Creek alum captioned his “#tbt” photo series.

Kimberly also shared photos from the vacation, including one where Joshua and Annabel pose with scribbles on the side of a rock that were dated Dec. 10, 2018, which the kids believe to be “ancient.”

“’Mommy I found ancient writing!’” Kimberly wrote. “Swipe for more photos of one of my most favorite days in life. Made yesterday’s madness all worth it.”

“You can navigate life with your head or your heart,” he writes. “One of them can plan, calculate, and see several steps ahead. The other tends to be nearsighted… but might just make you happy wherever you’re at. Happy navigation everybody… #MondayMusings.”

In September 2018, Van Der Beek got candid about parenting in the caption of a photo featuring himself and Emilia, giving a commentary on the phrase, “The days were long, the years were short.”

“That’s what parents of older children have said to me about raising kids. And it feels true already,” he wrote. “It’s SO easy to get consumed by the stresses, the daily grind, the little dramas that won’t even register in your memory a year later.”

“Seven years into #parenthood, I’m realizing more and more that all that really matters … are the moments of connection,” Van Der Beek added. “So when they happen, give yourself permission to wipe everything off the table and be 100 percent fully present for them. They’ll make the days happier, and the years worthwhile.”
