Jessica Alba Wore the Classic Pants That Look Good on Everyone

TheImageDirect Jessica Alba

Fashion has its secrets, some better known than others: vertical stripes elongate, black is slimming, nude heels add inches to your legs. But one of its more under-the-radar tricks comes in the form of a certain pair of pants.

Just yesterday, Jessica Alba stepped out wearing an Honest Company face mask and backpack, a striped button-down, a Cuyana belt bag, and a certain pair of Michael Kors pants with a belted waist. Paperbag pants — as the flattering style is known — feature a higher waist that's pinned in by a built-in belt slightly below the uppermost fabric. The higher rise on the style, plus the cinched-in silhouette created by the attached belt, creates an hourglass shape that looks good on so many body types.

Alba's particular pair of paperbag pants (so named for the "scrunch" effect above the belt) go the extra mile and include another fashion secret, a cropped, above-ankle length that makes her look even taller. For all these features, we'd happily pay the $193 retail price for a pair of Alba-approved pants, but today we actually found them for under $100 thanks to a Farfetch sale. Shop Alba's entire look, plus other flattering paperbag pants, below.
