Jessica Campbell, Election and Freaks and Geeks star, dead at 38
Jessica Campbell, best known for her roles in Election and Freaks and Geeks, has died at the age of 38.
The actress, who retired from acting to become a naturopathic physician, died on December 29th, her family revealed.
According to reports, she collapsed after seeing patients at her practice in Portland, Oregon, and her cause of death is yet to be determined.
A GoFundMe page set up to cover the cost of her funeral revealed that she has left behind a 10-year-old son, Oliver.
“Traveling the world, acting, becoming a doctor, being Mom to the coolest kid ever; these bucket list items wove the quotidian fabric of her reality,” her cousin wrote about her. “Her passion for life and the people in it was astounding.”
Jessica began her acting career in 1992 when she landed a role alongside Sarah Jessica Parker in the film In The Best Interest of the Children.
She went on to star in her most notable role in 1999 as Tammy Metzler in Election, alongside Reese Witherspoon, Chris Klein and Matthew Broderick.
Jessica’s performance in Election earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Debut Performance.

Reese Witherspoon took to her Twitter to pay tribute to Jessica, writing: “So heartbroken to hear this. Working with Jessica on Election was such a pleasure. I’m sending all my love to Jessica‘s family and loved ones.”
After Election, Jessica made a two-episode appearance on cult classic Freaks and Geeks before going on to appear in The Safety of Objects, Dad’s Day and Junk.
Her last acting credit was in 2002, before she decided to make a career shift to become a naturopathic physician.
