Jim Carrey halts efforts for late girlfriend’s mother to pay $372K bond
Actor Jim Carrey has halted his attempt to force his late girlfriend’s mother, Brigid Sweetman, to pay a bond totalling $372,000 (USD) while a judge has confirmed a trial will go ahead, the Telegraph UK has reported.
The 55-year-old’s partner, Cathriona White, passed away in September 2015 after committing suicide at age 30.
The late Irish make-up artist’s mother, Brigid, and her ex-husband, Mark Buron, are suing Carrey for wrongful death, claiming that he supplied Cathriona with a mixture of pills that resulted in her fatal overdose.
Cathriona’s mother has also accused the comedian of giving her daughter multiple sexually transmitted diseases.
Carrey previously hit back at these claims saying they were “irrelevant” to the case and were only included to embrass him into settling.
However, according to the Telegraph, Ms Sweetman’s attorney has said the family has no plans to settle.
Michael Avenatti, the family’s lawyer, stated: “In light of the court’s recent rulings entirely in our favour, we look forward to the trail in April against Mr Carrey.”
He added: “The public deserves to know the truth.”
Carrey’s attorney, Ray Boucher, also told the outlet that the actor never planned to settle.
He said: “There is no attempt to settle. Right now we are fighting over the discovery.”
The actor’s lawyer also confirmed they had halted proceedings forcing his late girlfriend's mother to pay a hefty bond after her attorney claimed she could not afford to pay.

Carrey first met girlfriend Cathriona in 2012 and was found dead after a prescription drug overdose in 2015.
The trial is expected to take place in April 2018.
