It's been an incredibly difficult time for John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, after the couple lost their baby son Jack mid-way through pregnancy on September 30. In the immediate aftermath of their loss, Chrissy shared the couple's anguish on Instagram with some heartbreaking black and white photos. Since then, however, she has largely been silent on social media.

On Wednesday night this week, John Legend performed his new song 'Never Break' at the Billboard Music Awards, and he dedicated it to his wife, whispering "this is for Chrissy" beforehand. Following the heartfelt performance, which left John with tears in his eyes, the 'All Of Me' singer took to Instagram to write an open letter to Chrissy Teigen, in which he spoke of how difficult it is to lose a child.

"This is for Chrissy. I love and cherish you and our family so much," John wrote, going on to acknowledge the "highest highs and lowest lows" the couple have experienced together. "Watching you carry our children has been so moving and humbling. I’m in awe of the strength you’ve shown through the most challenging moments. What an awesome gift it is to be able to bring life into the world. We’ve experienced the miracle, the power and joy of this gift, and now we’ve deeply felt its inherent fragility," he continued.

The reason John Legend wrote the song - which he did before the tragic pregnancy complications occurred - was as a symbol of he and Chrissy's enduring and everlasting support for one another. "As we walk this earth, we will hold each other’s hands through every tear, through every up and down, through every test," he wrote in his caption. "We will never break."

The singer concluded his emotional post with a thank you to all those who have rallied around them in the wake of Jack's death. Sharing a poignant insight into how devastating baby loss can be for a family, John added: "We’ve heard so many stories about how so many other families have experienced this pain, often suffering in silence. It’s a club no one wants to be a part of, but it’s comforting to know we’re not alone.

"I’m sure Chrissy will have much more to say about this when she’s ready. But just know we’re grateful and we’re sending love to all of you and your families."

As always, our love and thoughts are with Chrissy, John, and the rest of their family at this very difficult time.
