Justin Timberlake's Mugshot Causes Social Media Frenzy and Endless Memes: 'Is There a Ring Light?'
The Sag Harbor PD tell PEOPLE they produce the mugshots using a "standard Canon camera" tethered to the agency's booking computer with "no special lighting"
Justin Timberlake's mugshot is the talk of the town.
Following the 43-year-old "Sexy Back" singer's arrest in Sag Harbor, New York on Tuesday, June 18, his mugshot was released and social media users couldn't help but point out its excellent lighting and make it a meme.
However, the Sag Harbor Police Department tells PEOPLE that they produce the mugshots using a "standard Canon camera" tethered to the agency's booking computer with "no special lighting."
"They got nice lighting at the police station," one Instagram user commented on PEOPLE's post.
"Is there a ring light?" another user commented.
On X, several created memes for the mugshot — with one comparing the redness in his eyes to one of the penguins in Madagascar.
"This how justin timberlake looked in his mugshot," they wrote.
Another X user insisted the mugshot was "the most high quality mug shot ever lmao they said get the Nikon out we're getting this mf in 4K."
Meanwhile, another user confessed, "Of course Justin Timberlake’s mugshot is better than any headshot I’ve ever taken."
On June 18, Timberlake was charged with one count of driving while intoxicated and two citations, one for running a stop sign and one for failure to keep in a lane after leaving the American Hotel. Per a source, the singer-songwriter was "hanging out with friends."
According to his arrest report, which was obtained by PEOPLE, Timberlake told his arresting officer upon being pulled over, “I had one martini and I followed my friends home."
After he was arrested, he was taken to Sag Harbor Police Headquarters to be processed and refused to take a chemical test multiple times, according to the report.

He was then held overnight and arraigned the next morning. He is due back in court for a hearing on July 26.
“Mr. Burke looks forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these allegations,” his attorney Edward Burke Jr. said in a statement to PEOPLE on Wednesday, June 19. “He will have a lot to say at the appropriate time. He is currently awaiting full discovery from the DA’s office."
The arrest came during a brief break on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour — and a source told PEOPLE he plans to continue.
“It’s business as usual for him,” an insider said. “The tour is continuing as planned.”
