Kate Middleton felt "nervous" to talk about experiencing "mum-guilt"

Raising the future King can't be an easy feat, especially when you're doing it under the watchful gaze of pretty much the whole world. It's only fair then, that Prince William and Kate Middleton get their fair share of pats on the backs for juggling their many, many royal engagements with their parenting duties. But, like many parents, even the royals admit that you can't do it all, with Kate – who is mum to nine-year-old Prince George, seven-year-old Princess Charlotte and four-year-old Prince Louis – recently opening up about experiencing "mum-guilt".

Speaking about the Princess of Wales' guest appearance on her parenting podcast, Happy Mum Happy Baby, Giovanna Fletcher revealed that Kate had been "nervous" to talk about being a royal parent. "I have to say, we both went into that podcast very nervous," Fletcher – a former I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here winner – told OK! on 4 October.

"Knowing whatever you say is going to be taken and dissected must be really difficult. It must be hard to navigate how much to share and whether the person you’re talking to can be trusted. I felt honoured to be given that chance."

On the topic of "mum-guilt", Fletcher revealed that she and Kate had bonded over the experience – something which many mothers will surely relate to. "I think every mum has it," the author turned reality TV star said. "We’ve just got to accept it as part of what we experience, just acknowledge it’s actually a thing. That was the point of the podcast, to say it doesn’t matter who you are, what you have, what you do, there are elements of motherhood that are shared."

She continued: "To alleviate that guilt, those pressures, is really important because motherhood, although it is the most amazing thing, the reality is it can feel very alone. We need to be sharing our experiences to realise some feelings are normal."

As for what it was like to interview one of the most famous women in the world, Fletcher said that Kate – who appeared on the podcast back in 2020 – "is the most brilliant human I think I’ve ever met".

The mum-of-three went on: "When she talks to people, she asks them a question and listens to their answer, and she’ll build on it. She’s very aware of her presence, how her presence makes other people feel, and seeing her in action was brilliant."
