Kate Middleton fires loyal aide as she returns from honeymoon
As the fallout of the ‘fab four’ royal split continues, Kate Middleton is said to have let a loyal staff member go just as she returned from her honeymoon.
Sophie Agnew was in charge of the Duchess of Cambridge’s personal assistants and had worked for Kate for seven years before her role was made redundant this week, according to royal sources.
The 32-year-old aide had accompanied both William and Kate on their 2014 royal tour to Australia and New Zealand, and has often been pictured with the royals at various engagements over the years.
One source revealed that Sophie had only just got back from her honeymoon, leaving her family and friends shocked.
“Sophie worked so hard for Kate. She loved her job and made a lot of sacrifices,” a friend told the Daily Mail.
She becomes the second prominent aid to have left - the latest casualty of the split between the Cambridge and Sussex royal households, a senior source added.
Kate's private secretary, Rebecca Deacon, quit in 2017.
Harry and Meghan erased from royal website
Kate and Prince William made their split from the ‘Fab Four’ official this week, erasing Meghan Markle and Prince Harry from their website.
The Royal Foundation, which was set up by William and Harry almost a decade ago, is now run solely by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The Sussexes aren’t mentioned anywhere on the site, after it was revealed last June that Harry and Meghan were parting ways from their in-laws and their charitable projects to set up their own site, just 14 months after the charity’s name was amended to include the Sussexes in the title.
Royal ‘feud’
The ‘fab four’ first stepped out together in February 2018 in an official appearance at the Royal Foundation forum, just four months before Harry and Meghan tied the knot.
Rumours of a ‘feud’ in the palace cast a shadow over their tight bond, and by March this year, the Queen announced the creation of a new Household for Harry and Meghan, away from Kensington Palace.
The Sussexes moved to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, while William and Kate stayed at Kensington Palace.
