Happy birthday Meghan Markle!

The Duchess of Sussex turns 39 today and is believed to be spending her special day at home in Los Angeles with her husband Prince Harry and one-year-old son, Archie.

Tributes have poured in for the former actor, including several from the royal family.

On Tuesday, Kate Middleton and Prince William wished Meghan a happy birthday via their Kensington Royal Instagram account, sharing a picture of Meghan from when she visited military families with Prince Harry at a community centre in Windsor ahead of Remembrance Sunday last year.

Similarly, the royal family's official Instagram account also paid tribute to Meghan, sharing a photograph of her stood next to the Queen from their joint visit to Chester in 2018.

Clarence House, the social media account belonging to Meghan's father-in-law Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, also wished her many happy returns, sharing a picture of Meghan smiling from an official engagement and captioning the picture: 'Happy Birthday to The Duchess of Sussex! 🎈'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to split their time between the US, Canada and the UK earlier this year after announcing their intention to step back as senior working royals and become financially independent from the monarchy.

As the Queen said in her January statement confirming the couple's decision, Meghan, Harry and Archie will 'always be much loved members of my family' so the birthday wishes are a continued show of that support.

Since choosing to spend the majority of their time in Meghan's native Los Angeles, the couple have largely kept out of the public eye.

However, they have continued their charity work, including volunteering at food-based rehabilitation centres, delivering supplies to vulnerable neighbours during the Covid-19 pandemic and using their platforms to campaign for anti-racism in the wake of George Floyd's death.
