  • Kate Middleton and Prince William have made post-birth appearances with all three of their children.

  • Kate just called her first experience with Prince George “slightly terrifying.”

The royals have many weird traditions, like wearing outlandish hats to formal events (looking @ you, Beatrice!) and not taking selfies. But one of the more questionable royal customs is the tradition of a royal mom doing a photo shoot with her newborn right after giving birth. TBH, the thought of putting on a bra after giving birth sounds awful, not to mention doing full makeup and hair and putting on heels (heels!).

And while Meghan Markle declined to do the traditional Lindo Wing photo shoot after giving birth to Archie, Kate Middleton has done it for all three of her children. And in a new interview on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, Kate reveals that the first time was “terrifying.” She said of the appearance, “Yeah, slightly terrifying, slightly terrifying, I’m not going to lie.”

She elaborated, saying:

“Everyone had been so supportive and both William and I were really conscious that this was something that everyone was excited about and, you know, we’re hugely grateful for the support that the public had shown us. And actually for us to be able to share that joy and appreciation with the public, I felt was really important. But equally it was coupled with a newborn baby and inexperienced parents and the uncertainty of what that held, so there were all sorts of mixed emotions.”

She also shared that she and Will decided not to find out Prince George’s sex before Kate gave birth and that William was thrilled to be having a boy, saying, “Seeing the pure joy on his face was really special.”
