Kate Ritchie defends Summer Bay newbie Sam
The decision to give Sam Frost her first acting gig has left fans of Home & Away divided.
Now Summer Bay veteran Kate Ritchie has leapt to the former Bachelorette's defence.
Talking on her Nova radio show, Kate, Tim & Marty she said: "I just don't know why people are so mean-spirited towards an opportunity that's been given to someone."
Kate, 38, starred in Home & Away from the age of eight, playing fan favourite Sally Fletcher, and went on to argue that not all actors who had appeared on the soap were trained.
Sam herself has also stood up to the haters, sharing a motivational quote titled: 'Be Brave.'
Alongside it was an emotionally-charged caption that addressed her critics directly.
"I'm not afraid to challenge myself, to push through barriers," the 28-year-old said. "I have chosen to live my life embracing opportunities & challenges with open arms."
Earlier this week, industry figures and fans of the show had spoken out about the decision, labelling it 'disappointing' and a 'publicity stunt'.
Of those who were unhappy with the annoucement was Australian Acting Academy artistic director Brendan Glanville, who called Sam's casting a stunt to pull in more viewers.
While fans on social media weren't afraid to share their thoughts either, with one blasting her as "an insult to trained actors."
