Watch: Kate Winslet and daughter Mia Threapleton co-star in I Am Ruth
They play Ruth and her daughter Freya, who is increasingly affected by the pressures of social media and is suffering a mental health crisis in the emotional TV drama.
It is the latest film in Channel 4's female-led I Am series, which has previously featured Vicky McClure, Gemma Chan and Lesley Manville in stories about mental health, relationships and ageing.
Mare of Easttown star Winslet has co-written her episode with series creator Dominic Savage, which is expected to air later this year.
In the trailer, Academy Award winner Winslet and her daughter Threapleton can be seen arguing as Freya tries to push away mum Ruth's offers of help.
The emotional storyline sees her battling to get her confiscated phone back and the pair hugging and crying together.
Winslet can also be seen open water swimming in a dark sea in the trailer.
Talking about the project, Winslet said: “The collaborative and sensitive way in which Dominic Savage goes about creating and filming each episode of I Am is challenging, rewarding and completely immersive. The actors become these roles, and there is simply no room for pretending.
"It's a working environment that any actor would give anything to be a part of, and I can safely say with my hand on heart that I will never forget the things we learnt as we made this piece. The low key, quiet nature in which we put this together is how I aspire to work all the time.
"Often creative environments can be big and overwhelming, but part of Dominic's directorial process is to keep things to a bare minimum and just focus on the actors and the world we are creating alongside him, and with his unwavering support. It was a privilege and an inspiration to work with Dominic Savage. He's simply extraordinary."
I Am Ruth is a feature-length episode at two hours long, which will begin season three of I Am on Channel 4.
