It's the first weekend of October and there is expected to be some sun and some rain but mild temperatures.

Friday night, Apollo Cinema in downtown Kitchener has an interactive showing of Twilight: New Moon, and tickets include a "fang-tastic" prop bag.

Canadian cartoonist Bryan Lee O'Malley will be at The Dragon in Guelph on Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Scott Pilgrim series. Tickets are required but are free.

The second weekend of the Elora Fergus Studio Tour runs Saturday and Sunday. The self-guided driving and walking tour lets you see where local artists live and work.

Culture Days continue this weekend with the final stop of the Underlay: Nap Tour happening at the clock down in Kitchener's Victoria Park Saturday at noon. There's also an open house at the Guelph Youth Music Centre on Saturday that will include free interactive workshops, open rehearsals and live musical, dance and theatrical performances.

The Kitchener Rangers are home Friday night to host the Flint Firebirds. They hit the road Saturday to head to Owen Sound.

The Guelph Storm are home Friday to face the Soo Greyhounds.

Then on Sunday, the Storm will travel to Kitchener to face the Rangers at The Aud. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m.

K-W Central Art Walk

Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Kitchener neigbourhood bounded by Park, Victoria, Weber, and Union streets

This annual walking art tour and sale will feature 22 local artists. The mediums span from paintings to pottery, photography to soap, jewelry and fibre arts. Wear proper footwear and dress for the weather.

K-W Oktoberfest free family breakfast

Saturday, 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Bingemans, Kitchener

The annual free family breakfast will be held at Bingemans with pancakes, sausages, apple cider and coffee or tea.

There will also be face painting, balloon twisting and music by the Seven Castles band.

Registration is recommended but not required. While the event is free, people are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for the food bank or make a donation to support Kids Care at Grand River Hospital.

Also on this weekend, the Onkl Hans stuff a bus food drive. It will be at two locations: Zehrs at Laurentian Plaza and Zehrs at Conestoga Mall.

Bonus: Oktoberfest Bierhaus

Saturday, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Counterpoint Brewing Company, Kitchener

The brewery is hosting this event with a DJ, live band, kids activities, the tapping of the cask and a stein holding competition. There will also be beer and food on site. Kids and designated drivers are free.

Kitchener Model Train Show

Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bingemans, Kitchener

This family friendly event will have more than 170 vendor tables with model trains of all scales, structures and scenery, books, photographs and railroad memorabilia.

There will also be four model train operating layouts to enjoy.

Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

John Galt Park, Guelph

Visit the large locomotive near Guelph's River Run Centre for live music, a puppet show and get a personalized train ticket.

All Hallows' Queer Market

Friday 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be more than 25 vendors from local 2SLGBTQ businesses at this market and dressing up is highly encouraged. Take part in a free witchy activity, get one of the free gift bags for the first 10 people or enjoy a tarot card reading.

Kitchener 2021 Block Party

Saturday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Gaukel Block, downtown Kitchener

This event is part fun time, part community engagement as the city wants to get people out to this street-turned-park to talk about how they want to see the city change in the coming years.

There will be free food, live music with musician Elaquent, interactive activities and bike tune-ups.
