Kelly Clarkson is getting ahead of the haters before they call her out for being “the worst mom ever.” The singer posted on Twitter that she dyed a streak of purple into her 6-year-old daughter’s hair, and then rushed to tell followers that she did so with “safe, organic paint” just to ensure she couldn’t be dragged in the comments.

Smart, but also, ugh. She shouldn’t have to do this, people! It's clear that her daughter, River Rose Blackstone, is thrilled with the change.

“I put a purple streak in my daughter’s hair today and I swear to you she thinks she is as cool as Prince now,” Clarkson tweeted on August 4th. “Full on air guitar, singing at the top of her lungs, that is what’s happening."

"And before I get attacked for being the worst mom ever, it’s safe, organic paint,” she wrote.

Maybe it was the disclaimer, or perhaps people are finally realizing we have bigger fish to fry than our favorite celebs dying their kids’ hair, but the replies thread under Clarkson’s post was so incredibly uplifting. Lest you forget, last year, Pink had to step in when Jessica Simpson was being mom-shamed for putting a pink streak in her daughter's hand to mimic a character in The Descendants.

This time, parents began posting photos of their kids’ DIY hair dye, and the rainbow of colors is too cool. According to the kiddos, purple is in:

But if purple isn’t the color for your family, some kids have been experimenting with Kool-Aid reds and Arctic Fox blues (or both!).

With so much seriousness happening in the world around us, sometimes we need to let our kids (and ourselves) have a little fun. If a purple streak is what someone's kid wants to make them happy right now, keep the shaming to yourself.
