Three majorly important words for you to hear: LG6 IS HERE. First of all, can you believe it took three years before we got a true new Gaga album? Yes, I know the A Star Is Born soundtrack was a whole thing, so don’t even @ me. What I’m talking about here is the pure, unadulterated, weird-ass pop that Gaga has blessed our unworthy souls with throughout the last decade. Thankfully, 2020 is the dawn of a brand-new year because WE HAVE MUSIC, Y’ALL. And the first single that dropped is called—drumroll, pls—“Stupid Love”! But before we *truly* get into it, we have to take a lil trip down memory lane.

Back in August, Little Monsters actually cracked the code on what Gaga’s next single would be called after an unreleased track (which was ultimately “Stupid Love” in its baby form) was leaked and posted on Twitter. The track was removed from the internet by Gaga’s label because of copyright infringement (*sob*), but the notice sent to fans about the track’s removal actually revealed that the song was titled “Stupid Love.” Oops!

Six months later, Gaga confirmed that “Stupid Love” really is the first single from Chromatica. And lucky for us, we got a pretty visual to go with it:

The song technically dropped before, but we now have the words to the song available (in full!) for your dissecting pleasure. Without further ado, let’s get into those “Stupid Love” lyrics.

Verse 1
You’re the one that I’ve been waiting for
Gotta quit this crying, nobody’s gonna
Heal me if I don’t open the door
Kinda hard to believe (gotta have faith in me)

This verse likely refers to Gaga’s love life. If you recall, Gaga recently started dating Parker Foundation CEO Michael Polansky. Gaga and Michael were first spotted spending time together and kissing on New Year’s Eve, and they’ve been going steady ever since. They’re now Instagram official and reportedly super into each other!

“They’ve been seeing each other since before the holidays and she’s crazy about him....They had already been seeing each other for weeks,” a source told E! earlier this month.

But before she started dating Michael, Gaga was in a different relationship with her audio engineer, Dan Horton. Gaga and Dan started dating in July 2019 and broke up in October that same year—and it was her first relationship after ending her engagement with her former fiancé Christian Carino in February 2019.

This “Stupid Love” verse could be highlighting the apprehension Gaga must have felt when opening her heart to someone new after thinking she’d spend the rest of her life with a different man.

Refrain
Freak out, freak out, freak out, freak out (look at me)
Get down, get down, get down, get down (look at me)
Freak out, freak out, freak out, freak out
Look at me now

Pre-Chorus
’Cause all I ever wanted was love
Hey, hey-uh (ooh-ooh)
Hey, hey-uh (ooh-ooh)
Hey, hey-uh
All I ever wanted was love
Hey, hey-uh (ooh-ooh)
Hey, hey-uh (ooh-ooh)
Hey, hey-uh (higher, higher)

Chorus
I want your stupid love, love
I want your stupid love, love
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Verse 2
Now it’s time to free me from the chain
I gotta find that peace, is it too late

Or could this love protect me from the pain?
I would battle for you (even if I break in two)

Here, Gaga is liberating herself from her fears, and TBH, it sounds beautiful. She’s ready to move on from the pain and fight her instinct to run away from a romantic situation that could possibly develop into something more.

Refrain
Freak out, freak out, freak out, freak out (look at me)
Get down, get down, get down, get down (look at me)
Freak out, freak out, freak out, freak out
Look at me now

Pre-Chorus
’Cause all I ever wanted was love
Hey, hey-uh (ooh-ooh)
Hey, hey-uh (ooh-ooh)
Hey, hey-uh
All I ever wanted was love
Hey, hey-uh (ooh-ooh)
Hey, hey-uh (ooh-ooh)
Hey, hey-uh (higher, higher)

Chorus
I want your stupid love, love
I want your stupid love, love
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh

Bridge
I don’t need a reason (oh)
Not sorry, I want your stupid love
I don’t need a reason (oh)
Not sorry, I want your stupid love
Higher, higher

Chorus
I want your stupid love, love (oh, oh, woo)
We got a stupid love, love (love, love, uh-oh)
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
I want your stupid love, love
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
I want your stupid love, love
