The news around the COVID-19 outbreak is constantly changing, but information about food safety and how to keep yourself healthy is crucial right now. Here is a comprehensive list on the foods you should be stocking up on during this period of social distancing, as well as information about your local grocery stores’ changing hours, an explanation of “no-contact delivery,” and a guide on how to help your community and its businesses throughout closures.

Healthcare professionals have suddenly found themselves on the front lines as they battle day in and day out to save the lives of those impacted by the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. That is particularly true right now for those who are working in New York, which is the current epicenter of the outbreak in the U.S.

As a way to support their efforts, the staff of one Manhattan pizzeria is delivering as many as 400 pies every day to 40 hospitals in the five boroughs that make up New York City. Adam Elzer, who owns Sauce Pizzeria on East 13th Street, told NBC New York that he conceived of the idea after a friend who is a nurse revealed she was so busy that she did not have time to eat her lunch.

"They’re running around from room to room the hospitals are packed," Elzer told the outlet: "And if we’re not sending food, a lot of them are not eating,"

After learning about the good deeds of their tenant, Sauce Pizzeria's landlord donated more than $20,000 to the effort and canceled its rent bill for three months. Elzer and A&E Real Estate Management hope others across America will continue to pay it forward.

“Pizza makes people happy," Elzer told NBC. "That’s what this started from—that we wanted to give them some reason to smile when it’s kind of hard to smile with what they’re currently doing.”

In addition to Sauce Pizzeria's efforts, several national chains are helping feed doctors and nurses across the country. Chipotle just gave away 100,000 free burritos to healthcare workers in honor of National Burrito Day on April 2. Krispy Kreme is also thanking healthcare workers for their heroic work amid the COVID-19 outbreak by providing members of the community with free dozens of donuts over the next two months.
