Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell have a happy weekend ahead, after announcing their engagement to the world on Instagram. Congratulations to the happy couple.

After one year together, the Les Miserables actress and film director McDowell, 37, are engaged to be married, with Lily, 31, revealing the moment he proposed during what looks like a date.

"I’ve been waiting my lifetime for you and I can’t wait to spend our lifetime together," Lily wrote on Instagram.

The comments were quickly flooded with well wishes from fans and congratulations from peers, including Ashley Tisdale who wrote, "Congrats!!!! 💕💕," and Kaya Scodelario who added, "Yeayyy I’ve been waiting to see this post! Congratulations ❤️❤️❤️."

The pair started dating last year, with Lily later confirming their romance in August 2019 when she shared a photo of the two of them together in Paris. She was there filming her latest Netflix series, Emily In Paris, and it's reportedly where the couple met.

McDowell is an American film director and writer, best known for his film The One I Love. He has also worked on Bye Bye Benjamin and The Discovery.

Emily In Paris comes from Sex and The City creator Darren Star and tells the story of American girl Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) who moves to Paris to work for a big marketing firm. As well as trying to win over her new colleagues as she starts fresh in a new country, she also tries to make friends and navigate new romances.
