"The bodies of two boys, aged nine and 11, were found inside the home by a family member," NSW Police said in a statement.

"A 42-year-old woman is currently en route to Westmead Hospital under police guard in a stable condition."

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

A 42-year-old woman has been arrested after two boys aged nine and 11 were found dead inside a Blue Mountains home.

The woman is in hospital under police guard with "a number of injures" and is in a stable condition.

  • Deadly Aussie bird breeds on the other side of the world

It's one of the deadliest birds in the world and it calls Australia home.

But on the other side of the world, a bird park in the UK has finally managed to breed a southern cassowary chick after 25 years of trying.

“It has been a massive effort from the entire team here over many years, but it’s all been worthwhile when you see this amazing humbug-coloured chick exploring its new surroundings under the watchful eye of a very protective father," Alistair Keen, the head keeper at Birdland said.

The southern cassowary is regarded as dangerous because of its claws, strong legs and aggressive behaviour when threatened. The birds have killed people, including Marvin Hajos, 75, who was attacked by one of his pet cassowaries in Florida five years ago.

  • Grave fears for child after fire hospitalises three siblings

Three siblings aged five, three and one are still fighting for their lives after being found unconscious in their burning Melbourne home on Sunday night, with fears one may not survive.

The father of the middle child said the three were "happy little kids" and must have felt "petrified" during the ordeal.

"I hope they didn't feel anything to be honest," he told news crews outside the hospital on Tuesday.

"Obviously they would have, but I just tell myself they didn't. It shouldn't have happened."

The three and one-year-old children did not suffer physical burns but had to be treated for severe smoke inhalation while the man said the eldest child, whom he step-parented, may not survive. Investigations into the fire in Sydenham are ongoing.

  • Greens leader roasted for not being a vegan

Greens leader Adam Bandt has copped a grilling from Dave Hughes on breakfast radio this morning, with the comedian branding him a "hypocrite" for not being a vegan.

"If you’re going to the leader of the Greens, you’re going to bang on about climate change, you’re going to say everyone is ruining the world… if he’s not a vegan, he should quit the party!" Hughesy said on the Fifi, Fev & Nick show.

Bandt admitted he didn't have a "good drop-dead reason" why he wasn't a vegan but said his family had reduced their meat intake.

“Maybe you’ll inspire me one day, maybe I’ll get there one day, in the meantime, doing what I can," he added.

  • Kamala Harris practises on stage with lighting for presidential debate

All eyes will be on Kamala Harris tomorrow as she makes her debut in a presidential debate.

While she will be intently going over policy in the lead up, she will also need to find a way to handle Donald Trump's history of deviating from the truth.

This will be the former president's sixth presidential debate and during his previous debate with President Joe Biden, Trump made more than 30 false claims – at least 20 more than Biden, CNN reported.

Harris has spent much of the last week preparing for the debate and has used a stage with TV lighting to familiarise herself with the setting, sources have told NBC News.

We will bring you regular updates tomorrow, with the debate set to start at 11am (AEST).

  • Drastic move from Bali as holiday island nears breaking point

While Bali's crackdown on an influx of foreign tourists misbehaving has been widely publicised, the Indonesian holiday island is looking to take things further as it struggles to cope with the impact foreigners are having.

According to local government officials, a moratorium is set to be placed on the construction of any new hotels, villas and nightclubs in some areas of the island and could last up to 10 years.

Bali's interim governor Sang Made Mahendra Jaya said he suggested the moratorium in four of Bali's busy areas to the central government, taking aim at over-development for commercial purposes.

  • Brutal housing reality for plenty of young Aussies

A young man with "quite a good job" has admitted that despite living at home with his parents to save, he was only able to get on to the property ladder as they recently sold the family home. It's an increasingly familiar story for many young Aussies.

"I'm in a very lucky position that I am able to get some money for them to help," he told Q&A. "But if I wasn't, it would be near impossible."

Yahoo Finance contributor David Koch recently wrote a defence for the much-maligned Baby Boomer community, who are expected to pass on around $3.5 trillion of their wealth to younger generations in the next 20 years.

He dropped a stat we found very interesting. Koch said the Bank of Mum and Dad is now "the sixth biggest home lender in Australia" in aggregate.

That's a considerable expectation placed on the shoulders of older Australians and has been backed up by Australian Housing Monitor research, which found parents are helping 40 per cent of first-home buyers. That’s up from 15 per cent in the 1980s.

Millions of Australians waiting for an inheritance said they would rather get their slice of the family pie before their loved one died. But millions more think they won't get anything.

So have you, or will you be able to benefit from funds handed down from your parents? Let us know below.

  • Elle Macpherson swiftly departs radio interview

Elle Macpherson has been talking about her controversial cancer response of late, but it wasn't a question about her holistic approach to treatment that triggered the end of an interview on Brisbane radio this morning.

Appearing on B105, host Matty Acton asked her how it works voting from overseas and if she still does.

But the 60-year-old didn't seem too impressed with the question, telling him she doesn't "get drawn into politics on morning radio", the Courier Mail reported.

Saying she had another interview to go to, she hung up moments later.

“I don’t reckon she’s calling back," Acton said.

  • Man wins battle against developers to keep $50-a-week home

Well how's this for a David and Goliath battle. Eighty-year-old Joe Warren has been allowed to keep the mining cottage he has lived in since birth after developers bought the home and surrounding land with a plan to build 200 homes on the plot in Catherine Hill Bay on NSW's Central Coast.

While eviction proceedings were discontinued against Joe, Wallalong Land Development attempted to put his rent up to more than 10 times the $50 he was paying a month, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

But with pro bono legal help, Joe has been able to keep his home after a prolonged battle thanks to a little-known law that identifies him as a "protected tenant".

Joe had worked at the local mines and his rent had come out of his wages after taking over the property from his grandparents. Since the mine closed in 2002, he continued paying the same rent but did not have a written lease. And a court has now decided that $50 is what he will continue to pay – a result the tenants' union has described as "really important".

Joe says he'll now live in the home "until I cark it".

  • Australia nears social media ban for kids

Australia is one step closer to a social media ban for children under 14. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is set to announce on Tuesday his government will introduce legislation to enforce a minimum age for access to social media.

The legislation, to be introduced before the next election, will draw on a report by former High Court chief justice Robert French, released in South Australia on Sunday.

Albanese said technology moved fast and it would be difficult for the government to protect every child from every threat - but something had to be done.

"Parents are worried sick about this," Albanese said.

"The safety and mental and physical health of our young people is paramount. We are taking this action because enough is enough."
