Family give in as suburb built around them
The family has stayed put for nearly four decades as the surrounding land filled up with home after home. Developers have cashed in on Hammond Park in Perth's southern suburbs and while the owners of this six-acre plot weren't tempted to cash in, they now are.
Offers for the plot are expected to be over $3 million, with agents Effective Property Solutions calling it an "unparalleled opportunity" for developers.
The firm told Domain the area is in "very high demand" with property developers confident homes built on the plot would easily be snapped up by young families.

Bodies of hundreds of babies found in mass grave
More than 300 bodies have been discovered in a mass grave in the UK, with the majority belonging to babies and children.
The 4-metre wide grave at the cemetery in the town of Oldham was found by a woman looking for her brothers, with one stillborn and the other dying within five hours in 1962.
According to councillors Maggie Hurley and Jade Hughes, who revealed the discovery in a statement, 146 of the bodies were stillborn babies and 128 babies and young children.
Until the mid-1980s, stillborn babes were often taken from families with no consultation with their parents, who would not know where they were taken.
"It's a stark injustice that parents were denied the fundamental right to bury their babies, a right that should be inherent and unquestionable," the councillors said.
"This situation should stir our collective sense of fairness and empathy."
The woman's find left her "in tears", they added, and "feeling a profound sense of loss and injustice".

Lottery winner in tears as he's able to leave parents' home
Now this is a nice lottery update here. A Melbourne man struggling to find a rental has been brought to tears after landing $1 million on Wednesday's Weekday Windfall draw.

“I couldn’t be more grateful. This is a new start," he told lottery officials.
“As a single bloke, finding a place on your own can be tricky but this changes everything."

Driver fined for being tired behind the wheel
While drink drivers are routinely pulled off our roads, a different yet equally as dangerous impairment is harder to act upon for police.
But for police in Sydney's north, they were able to identify a tired driver after they received a 000 call about the motorist swerving on the Pacific Highway while driving well below the speed limit.
Police managed to pull the driver over shortly after 5am on Thursday and after passing a roadside breath test, it was deemed he was too fatigued to be on the road.
The 29-year-old was taken to the nearest train station where he continued his journey.
"Thank you to the members of the public who contacted police, research shows that driving while fatigued can be as dangerous as drink driving. But unlike drink driving, there are no laws regulating driver fatigue for light vehicles. If you feel the signs of fatigue, find a safe place to stop and rest," NSW Police said.
The driver was issued a penalty notice in relation to his manner of driving.

What a load of rubbish
Now here's one that's triggered plenty of debate online.
It seems people are very passionate about the way they put their bins out and there's two groups that have emerged – those who put them out with a gap in between and those who don't leave a gap.
Of course, there's plenty of variables that will impact which camp you sit in, whether it be if your council uses trucks with mechanical arms or you live in the busy inner-city.
So tell us, how do you do yours? Have your say below and click here to find out what one Melbourne council has to say about the correct way of doing it.

Sam Kerr banned from taking selfies
Sam Kerr will no longer be able to sign autographs or take photos with fans at her home ground after Chelsea banned the interactions with supporters.
The club says it is "no longer safe" to do so at their Kingsmeadow stadium, with a statement saying there were incidents last year that raised concerns.
It comes amid increased interest in the women's game with higher attendances at matches. Sam Kerr famously shoulder barged a pitch invader at the stadium in 2021 and was booked in the process.

Plea after woman raped at beach
Police say "someone knows something" as they offer $250,000 for information about a "vicious" rape at a bush doof two years ago.
Special Crime Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Fowler said a 31-year-old woman lives with the “aftermath of the incident every day” after she was attacked leaving a bush doof event at Cable Beach in Broome, WA on May 29, 2022.
She was approached by an unknown man after she left the crowd to venture into nearby sand dunes between 4.30am and 5am. The man then struck her in the head multiple times and sexually assaulted her.
The woman suffered serious facial injuries following the assault.

Socceroos suffer shock defeat to Bahrain
He's scored a fair few goals for the Socceroos but it was only disappointment for defender Harry Souttar last night as it was his own goal that gave Bahrain a 1-0 victory over Australia in a shock result in the World Cup qualifier.
Coach Graham Arnold said it was "just one of those nights" as his side dominated possession. He was ultimately left frustrated with Bahrain's style of play.
"If there's any learning curve it's the frustration around play-acting. They parked the bus, six at the back, had numbers ... these types of things happen in football, it's how you get over it," he said.
The loss, in the side's first game on the Gold Coast, is a massive setback to begin the third round of qualifying, which continues in Jakarta against Indonesia on Tuesday.
Only the top two sides in a pool that also includes China, Japan and Saudi Arabia will earn direction qualification to the 2026 showpiece.
