Who is Ryan Wesley Routh? The man behind alleged Trump assassination attempt
Ryan Wesley Routh has been identified as the man who allegedly tried to assassinate Donald Trump at a Florida golf course.
So who is he? The 58-year-old lives in Hawaii where according to his LinkedIn profile, he builds simple homes for homeless people in a bid to tackle "uparalleled gentrification", the Miami Herald reports.
Originally from North Carolina, he is listed as an active unaffiliated voter in the state, according to The News & Observer. He reportedly voted in the Democratic primary when he cast a ballot earlier this year.
In the 2016 presidential election he said online he voted for Donald Trump, the New York Post reports.
In one post on Twitter, he said he was dismayed with Trump's performance as president.
“I and the world hoped that president Trump would be different and better than the candidate, but we all were greatly disappointment and it seems you are getting worse and devolving; are you retarded; I will be glad when you gone,” Routh posted.
He was previously arrested in 2002 after allegedly leading police on a vehicle chase and barricading himself inside the roof of his workplace, local media in North Carolina reported at the time.
