John Howard gives his two cents on US election candidates
Former prime minister John Howard has given his thoughts on the upcoming US election, taking a swipe at both candidates.
“I’m glad I don’t have a vote there … I don’t think she’s got a very good idea of how to run the American economy. But Donald Trump did not leave the field when the umpire’s finger went up," he said in an interview with Nine.
“Everything we’re witnessing in America tells us, that their political system is far inferior to ours.
“In a parliamentary system, Donald Trump would have never got to the leadership of the Republicans and I don’t think Kamala Harris would have ever got to the leadership of the Democrats.”

All of Australia set for a soaking
Australia's temperamental weather will roll on next week with every state and territory set for a soaking.
"Rain and thunderstorms will increase over the north of WA this weekend as tropical moisture feeds into a deepening area of low pressure," Weatherzone explained, saying rains could last for up to 10 days.
"This wet and stormy weather will then spread over central Australia on Monday before forming a broad rainband that will drench southeastern and eastern Australia between Tuesday and the end of next week."
By next Friday, some areas in WA, the NT, NSW and Tasmania could cop up to 100mm, modelling shows.
A surge of tropical moisture will produce #rain over part of every Australian state and territory during the next week, with some places likely to see several months’ worth of rain in a few days. ☔️https://t.co/OE7isJZ2a3

Labor frontbencher not expecting rate cut
With plenty of excitement caused by the US' decision to drop its interest rates, there's hope in Australia the RBA will follow suit.
But Labor frontbencher Bill Shorten doesn't think that'll come next week.
"It is significant that the Fed has decided to lower interest rates in American by half a per cent, but our economies are not identical, so how long that takes to flow through, and the impact that has, remains to be seen," he told ABC Radio on Friday.
"Our dollar rallied on the basis that the Fed was cutting rates, and of course, with a rallying dollar, it means that we're able to buy more, it takes some inflationary pressure off us."

Commonwealth has pushed back its prediction for a long-awaited interest rate cut by a month, moving it to December from November.
It is still the earliest rate cut forecast by all of the major banks, with Westpac and ANZ expecting a February cut and NAB forecasting one in May.
CBA head of Australian economics Gareth Aird said the change was a result of "the August labour force survey coupled with still relatively hawkish rhetoric from the RBA Governor".
