Local slams 'disrespectful' visitors for ignoring beachside rule
Dozens of people visiting Bondi Beach were ignoring signage and putting the landscape at risk.
A Sydney resident has urged others to "respect [the] neighbourhood" after capturing people at a busy beach ignoring a council rule put in place to preserve the surrounding lawn.
The woman took photos of several people sitting on the grass at Bondi Beach, despite a Waverley Council sign reading the area is closed off due to a turf upgrade.
"Please do not sit on the grass people!!! How many of your friends can you spot in these pictures?" she said in the Bondi Loop Facebook group.
"If you keep sitting and leaving your dogs in north Bondi we won’t have grass for summer. Please respect our neighbourhood." The process of re-turfing is removing the old lawn and laying out new grass in an attempt to stabilise the soil.

Several locals agreed with the woman, not wanting there to be a "dirt-patch" instead of a nice lawn during the summer.
"Thank you for sharing — the new turf already looks worse for wear and with good weather this weekend it could be a disaster," one person said. "Are the people ignoring the signs just stupid, ignorant, or think they're just better than everyone else? All of the above perhaps?"
"There’s plenty of grass in Bondi Beach, but they had to sit in the part that was closed off," another said.
"Excessive foot traffic and animal urine are contributing factors to negatively impacting rejuvenation," a third person said.
