The Lost Boys: Where are they now?

In 1987 there was no Twilight and vampires were a whole load cooler and less mopey. Joel Schumacher's hedonistic horror-comedy was a generation-defining celebration of youth and really made us all want to be vamps, or at least one of the vampire-hunting Frog brothers.

The cast was hot, the hair was big, the soundtrack was rockin'. But now, more than 30 years on, what happened when The Lost Boys finally grew up?

1. Kiefer Sutherland (David)

The Lost Boys turned bad boy Sutherland into an instant sex symbol and his status soared. Young Guns and Flatliners cemented his success, before he stretched his wings with character roles in A Few Good Men and Dark City in the '90s. In 2001 Sutherland took the lead as Jack Bauer in 24 (one of the first movie stars to "stoop" to TV, as it was thought then), racking up nine seasons and bagging himself an armful of awards.

Sutherland had a small part in the flop Flatliners reboot and he's going strong in series Designated Survivor, which is heading into season three, where he plays a cabinet minister who reluctantly becomes the President of America after the current leader and all his successors are killed in a terror attack.

2. Jason Patric (Michael)

Post-Lost Boys Patric bagged a lead role alongside Brad Pitt and Robert DeNiro in Barry Levinson's excellent Sleepers before joining Sandra Bullock in Speed 2: Cruise Control and earning himself a Razzie nomination. He was cut from Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line (not unusual for a Malick film), but won acclaim for his role in Joe Carnahan's Narc. He had a recurring role in Fox series Wayward Pines, which ran for two seasons.

3. Corey Feldman (Edgar Frog)

Child star and '80s icon Feldman had a series of hits after The Lost Boys, frequently with co-star Corey Haim (License To Drive, Dream A Little Dream and a handful of straight-to-DVD movies). He voiced Donatello in the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and its threequel (but not the second part Secret Of The Ooze) but struggled with addiction.

Later he branched out into music – he's currently the lead singer in band The Truth Movement. More recently Feldman's output has been eclectic, ranging from undead schlock to indie comedies. He also reprised his role as vampire Hunter Edgar Frog in the Lost Boys sequels Lost Boys: The Tribe and Lost Boys: The Thirst.

4. Corey Haim (Sam)

The other half of the Two Coreys was also an '80s teenage heartthrob, a well-respected star and a big name after The Lost Boys, though he never quite fulfilled his potential. Haim had serious problems with drugs and appeared mainly in indie and straight-to-DVD films in his later career, including a closing-credits cameo in Lost Boys: The Tribe, though he did appear opposite Jason Statham in Crank: High Voltage.

Haim died in 2010 of pneumonia. At the time he was developing a sequel to License To Drive called License to Fly with old friend Corey Feldman.

5. Jami Gertz (Star)

After a role in 16 Candles and starring in Less Than Zero the same year as she played demi-vampire Star in The Lost Boys, Gertz also had a promising start which didn't quite turn into success. She worked steadily on mainly independent films, though she did have a role in 1996 disaster movie Twister.

More recently she's worked as a producer, including on About A Boy director Chris Weitz's A Better Life, which nabbed an Oscar nomination for star Demian Bichir. Next up she's slated to co-produce a project called Three Little Words for director James Mangold, who made Logan.

6. Jamison Newlander (Alan Frog)

The other Frog brother, Newlander was overshadowed by the Coreys somewhat and other than appearing in the remake of The Blob, left movies behind for some years. In Lost Boys: the Tribe Newlander has a tiny alt-ending cameo, though in part 3, The Thirst, he has a more substantial role opposite Corey Feldman.

It could be he's on his way back to the big screen though – he had a part opposite Kurt Russell in Bone Tomahawk and played a cop in A Tale of Two Coreys, about… guess what?

7. Alex Winter (Marko)

Two years after The Lost Boys Winter would land his defining role as Bill S Preston, one half of the time traveling slacker duo in Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill And Ted's Bogus Journey.

Winter has dabbled in writing and directing too, including thriller Fever starring Teri Hatcher, documentaries Downloaded, Deep Web, and Zappa, due out next year. He and Keanu Reeves are returning in Bill & Ted Face the Music, where they will no doubt be excellent to each other and party on, dudes.

8. Dianne Wiest (Lucy)

A Woody Allen regular who won two Oscars for her collaborations with him (Hannah And Her Sisters, Bullets Over Broadway), Wiest has had a very successful movie career. She picked up another Oscar nod for her role in Ron Howard's Parenthood as well as parts in Edward Scissorhands, Little Man Tate, Practical Magic, The Horse Whisperer and more recently Amy Poelher/Tina Fey comedy Sisters.

9. Chance Michael Corbitt (Laddie)

The actor who played mini-vamp Laddie was 5 years younger than the Coreys so (quite rightly) didn't get caught in the wave of heartthrobbery. Instead Corbitt appeared in a handful of films in the late '80s and early '90s (Pumpkinhead, The Rocketeer), played David Hasselhoff's son Kyle Buchannon in three eps of Baywatch and then disappeared from the scene. Last time we saw him he'd popped back up in horror film Hallows' Eve in 2014.

10. Brooke McCarter (Paul)

A member of David's undead vampire biker gang, McCarter was one of the bright young things of The Lost Boys who never broke out as an actor. After Lost Boys he appeared in a couple of episodes of The Twilight Zone and a film called Wired with Michael Chiklis about the life of John Belushi.

Through the '90s he worked as Corey Haim's manager, then later dabbled in music. McCarter died of a genetic liver disorder in December 2015, aged 52.

11. Billy Wirth (Dwayne)

Another of David's gang members, Wirth might not be super-famous now but he went on to have a very steady and respectable film and TV career. Following The Lost Boys he appeared on Abel Ferrara's Body Snatchers, then Boys On The Side with Drew Barrymore and Matthew McConaughey.

Later Wirth would pick up roles in Charmed, Sex and The City and CSI. He also directed critically acclaimed Sundance hit MacArthur Park. He's producing and exec-producing now too, most recently on Shia LaBeouf movie Man Down.
