Love Island stars want better support for contestants
Love Island 2017 stars Jess Shears and Dom Lever have spoken about the tragic death of Sophie Gradon.
The couple, who got engaged to each other just three months after meeting in the villa in 2017, told OK! that the passing of the 2016 Love Island star last month put things into perspective for them.
"It's put everything into perspective," Dom said. "I don't think trolls understand the consequences of what they're writing. Reality TV stars get a lot of crap."
And both he and Jess reckon that former contestants should get more support once they leave the bubble of the cameras.
"I'd like to see support groups set up for when you leave reality shows," Dom said, while Jess added: "Or even more support from the production companies.
"You're told you have access to help, but no-one reaches out to you."
ITV2 previously told Digital Spy in a statement: "All of our islanders are offered psychological support before, during and after their time in the villa. We take our duty of care very seriously and this is always our top priority."
As for Jess and Dom, the couple have spent a lot of time focusing on their wedding plans recently and Jess admitted that it hasn't been a smooth ride.
"I'm really excited, but it's the most stressful thing ever," she said. "Dom freaked out when we were talking about signing all the legal documents after the wedding. He was like, 'What, and then you're my wife, just like that?'"
Sadly the couple have confirmed that they won't be inviting their Love Island co-stars to the wedding, so there are no group reunion photos coming our way.
