Anti-vaxxer M.I.A. has told her fans that she would rather die than receive a coronavirus vaccination amid the pandemic.
On Tuesday, the 44-year-old took to Twitter to express her controversial opinion and remorse at being ‘made to’ vaccinate her 11-year-old son before he started school.
‘If I have to choose the vaccine or chip I'm gonna choose death,’ the star, whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam, wrote.
The statement provoked criticism among her fans with several lamenting the musician for promoting anti-vaccination theories.

When questioned by a fan why she was against vaccinations, the ‘Paper Planes’ singer wrote: ‘Most of science is in bed with business.
‘Business is in bed with banks, banks are in bed with tech, techs in bed with us, we re in bed with corona. Corona is in bed with science. So on… the best is prevention.’
The musician continued, explaining that it was ‘the hardest thing’ allowing her son to be receive injected before he started school.
A study by Health Testing Centers in November found that between 2009 and 2018, 27 of the 50 US states experienced a drop in the percentage of vaccinated kindergarten-age children.
‘To not have choice over this as a mother,’ she wrote. ‘I never wanna feel that again. He was so sick for 3 weeks then Docs had to pump him with antibiotics to reduce the fever from 3 vaxins [sic].
‘As an adult you have choice! By then you've built your immune system. You have a choice as an “adult” wishing you all good health.’
‘Don't panic you are ok. You are not gonna die. You can make it without stressing the medical systems. Just breathe. You are going to be ok. You can make it through without jumping in the frying pan. You are fine. All the vaccines you've already had is enough to see you through.’

M.I.A.’s comments come days after the UK entered its fourth day of lockdown with the aim of slowing down the spread of Covid-19.
On Monday, prime minister Boris Johnson told the UK public in a press conference that people may only leave home to exercise once a day, travel to and from work when it is ‘absolutely necessary’, shop for essential items and fulfil any medical or care needs.
On Thursday, the UK death toll had risen to 465 at the time this article was published.
Last week, actress Evangeline Lily drew criticism after telling her Instagram followers that she was refusing to self-quarantine and social distance amid coronavirus concerns.
