Madonna asks fan in wheelchair why they're 'sitting down' at concert: 'Politically incorrect'
Madonna is drawing criticism after calling out a fan in a wheelchair for sitting at a concert.
The pop legend made the remarks onstage during a concert at Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Thursday during a Celebration Tour stop.
"What are you doing sitting down over there? What are you doing sitting down?" the superstar shouted, pointing in the crowd.
"Oh, OK. Politically incorrect, sorry about that. I’m glad you’re here," Madonna, 65, said after walking to the edge of the stage.
Madonna is currently on her 79-show world tour, which was originally postponed from a summer run after she battled a serious bacterial infection.
USA TODAY has reached out to Madonna's reps for comment.
Madonna wheelchair incident follows AIDS tribute segment flub featuring Luther Vandross
That wasn't the only flub made by Madonna during The Celebration Tour. Late last month, an image of the Grammy-winning R&B and soul singer Luther Vandross was removed from an AIDS tribute segment during the tour.
During every show, Madonna pays tribute to some of those who have died after being infected by HIV (a disease that has killed an estimated 40 million people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization) – including Freddie Mercury and Keith Haring – with a photo mosaic and montage as she performs her 1986 single "Live to Tell."
Madonna removes Luther Vandross photo after his estate objects to inclusion in AIDS tribute
The news came after a representative for Vandross' estate objected to his photo reportedly being included during Madonna's performance in Sacramento, California. Vandross' representatives responded to the controversy in a statement shared with USA TODAY.
"Luther Vandross passed away in 2005 due to complications from a stroke suffered two years earlier. While we appreciate Madonna's recognition of those lives lost to AIDS, Luther was NEVER diagnosed with AIDS or the HIV virus," a representative for Vandross' estate said at the time.
