The Colombian star is the latest artist who an audience member has thrown something at while performing
In fan footage that recently surfaced of the Colombian star’s Don Juan World Tour opening night in Sacramento on Aug. 31, someone in the crowd threw a crutch at the singer, 29, as he was singing on the Golden 1 Center stage.
As captured by audience members, the crutch barreled towards the performer as he was singing his 2022 song “Mojando Asientos.” Standing at the edge of the stage in front of a blown up dog resembling his own pet Buda, the object flew towards the “COCO LOCO” artist until he caught it with his one free hand.
Although the singer looked visibly confused when he caught the object, he quickly made light of the situation by lifting it up and holding it like a baseball bat while smiling. Shortly after, the recording artist (whose real name is Juan Luis Londoño Arias) resumed singing the Feid-featured song, proceeding to lean on and cheekily dance with the medical equipment.
The incident happened on the first night of the North American leg of the rapper/singer’s Don Juan World Tour. The 30-city tour, which is framed around his “Don Juan” alter ego and in support of his 2023 album of the same name, will continue through early November.
When announcing the shows earlier this year, Maluma shared in a press release, "I am so excited to return to arenas around the U.S. this fall. I took a year off from touring to focus on perfecting what I feel is the best album of my career Don Juan.”
"I can't wait to perform the new songs from the album for my fans for the very first time alongside my greatest hits in what I consider to be my most ambitious concert production yet," the Grammy nominee continued. "I've waited to give my fans a music and concert experience unlike any other and I expect the Don Juan U.S. Tour to be an exhilarating experience that they'll never forget!"

The tour opener incident makes Maluma the latest artist in a string of similar occurrences who has had an untraditional object thrown at them while on stage.
While performing, Pink was given a wheel of cheese and even the ashes belonging to a fan’s late mother; a beverage was thrown at Cardi B’s face after she asked to be “splashed down;” and unclear objects have all hit Harry Styles, Kelsea Ballerini and Latto.
Bebe Rexha required medical attention after she was struck in the face with a cell phone during a July concert. The pop singer, 34, was injured and required stitches, leading to the arrest of the man who threw the phone at her.
Many artists, including Adele, Charlie Puth, Billie Eilish and Finneas, among others, have since spoken out about the phenomenon, noting how dangerous it is and requesting fans have better show etiquette.
