Man arrested after death of woman in her 50s

The death of a woman in her 50s in Donaghadee, County Down, is being investigated by police.

The woman was found dead in a house in Rosepark at about 07:00 BST on Monday, police have said.

A man, also in his 50s, has been arrested as part of the investigation.

He remains in custody.

Det Ch Insp McGuinness is appealing to anyone who was in the Rosepark area between Sunday night and Monday morning to contact police.

North Down MP Alex Easton offered his condolences to the family and friends of the woman "during this incredibly difficult time".

"This is an unimaginable loss for them, and I know the entire community will be united in offering support and sympathy," he added.

"Donaghadee is a close-knit town, and I am confident that its residents will stand together in the wake of this heartbreaking event."

Alliance Party councillor Hannah Irwin has called for anyone with information to contact the PSNI.

"Heartbreaking news emerging of another woman's death in Northern Ireland, this time in our own wee town of Donaghadee," she posted on X.

"My thoughts are with this woman's family and friends."
