Man dead, 5 injured after Brampton collision: police
A man is dead and five people are injured after a two-car collision in Brampton just after midnight Sunday, police say.
Around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, emergency responders were called to the scene of a collision at the intersection of Steeles and Finch avenues, Peel police said in an email.
Police say they found a man with life-threatening injuries and emergency responders began life-saving measures. He was then transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead, police say.
Const. Moulika Sharma told reporters Sunday that investigators had determined the man was driving a van westbound on Steeles Avenue and was hit by an oncoming Audi while he attempted to make a left turn.
All five people inside the Audi were injured, Sharma said. The driver of the Audi was taken to a trauma centre in Toronto, she said, and the four passengers of the vehicle were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Sharma said investigators are trying to determine whether street racing played a part in the collision, but it was too early to determine.
Sharma said Peel police have already given out hundreds of charges related to street racing this year, calling it "a major problem."
As investigators work to determine exactly how the crash transpired, Sharma said police are asking anyone with information or video of the collision to come forward.
