Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy leaves stint as interim head coach
Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy has left his role as interim head coach, the club have announced.
His last game was a 3-0 Manchester United win over Leicester City at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Van Nistelrooy, who took over as interim coach after Erik ten Hag's sacking at the end of last month, is being replaced by Ruben Amorim, who arrived at the club's Carrington training complex today, Manchester United said.
The club praised Van Nistelrooy in a statement saying he "is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend".
"We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford," it added.
The statement said the full men's first team coaching composition would be confirmed in due course.
Amorim, 39, was greeted by chief executive Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox as he arrived in Manchester this morning following a flight from Beja, Portugal.
The new coach's first game in charge will be against Ipswich Town on 24 November. He will be meeting key staff before he obtains his visa and can start working.
Amorim, who was previously in charge of Portuguese club Sporting, has signed a contract until June 2027, with the option of a further year.
Sky Sports News reported Amorim was the only coach Manchester United spoke to during the recruitment process.
United are also understood to have paid Sporting an extra €1m (£840,000) on top of his €10m (£8.4m) exit clause for an early release from his 30-day notice period.

A former Benfica and Portugal midfielder, Amorim retired as a player in 2017 and took up his first managerial job at Braga two years later.
He then joined Sporting in 2020 and led them to their first league title in 19 years in 2021. He then repeated the achievement with the Lisbon club earlier this year.
