Manhunt after alleged 'act of cruelty' with ibis at Sydney park

Witnesses reported the man tried to stuff the tied and bleeding 'bin chicken' into his trolley bag.

A man was filmed allegedly attempting to capture an ibis near a suburban railway station in Sydney on Tuesday.

Police are investigating whether an act of animal cruelty took place and have distributed two stills from the video. One shows a man appearing to hold an ibis near council bins at a park in Eastwood. The other shows his back and the trolley he was reportedly carrying. Police confirmed with Yahoo News Australia that several calls were made to them by bystanders in relation to the incident.

Witnesses told authorities the man allegedly tied a rope around the bird’s feet and neck, then attempted to force the bird into a red coloured wheeled red trolley bag. They said the ibis appeared to be bleeding and had an injured beak, however it flew away before wildlife rescuers arrived.
