Married Suspect in Vegas Cybertruck Explosion Went Radio Silent on Wife Before Attack
The suspect believed to be behind the New Year’s Day Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas had recently gone radio silent on his wife.
Matthew Livelsberger, an active U.S. Army serviceman, was identified by local media as the mystery man who died Wednesday morning in the exploding vehicle.
Now Livelsberger’s loved ones are speaking out to share their shock and to reveal that the Army man—reportedly based in Germany, but back stateside on leave—had not spoken to his wife in “several days.”
That’s according to a CBS report, which cited anonymous relatives of the 37-year-old Special Forces veteran. Those loved ones added that they knew Livelsberger had rented a Cybertruck in Colorado recently—something authorities said the suspect did through Turo, which works similarly to Airbnb for rental vehicles and was also used by the man who killed 15 in New Orleans earlier Wednesday.

Much remains unknown about Livelsberger’s potential motive and mental state. He appears to have at one point been married to Sara Livelsberger, a 38-year-old who lives in Delray Beach, Florida. It’s unclear if they are still married. She did not respond to requests for comment from the Daily Beast.
A Facebook page for Sara has been dormant since 2016, but makes multiple references to Livelsberger as her husband. That included one post from 2015, which lines up with Livelsberger’s age, that read: “It is my old a-- husbands’s 28th birthday!”
She also posted that she was a registered Democrat and made posts that embraced Barack Obama, who was still president at the time. She also shared images that appeared to be critical of Donald Trump and once commented that she follows Trump’s Twitter page “just to get my morning motivation to to (sic) kill someone.”
Livelsberger appears to have been more active on Facebook himself. A page that matches his name—and includes photos that appears similar to the man who was photographed smiling with Sara a decade ago—had posted a photo as recently as Sept. 10 that showed him holding a baby. His arm was filled with tattoos.
Also circulating Thursday was Livelsberger’s LinkedIn account. It showed he’s been in the military since he was a teenager, meaning he was a year away from qualifying for full military benefits. His LinkedIn included a photo of him posing in winter gear and holding an assault rifle as he stood up on a snow mobile.
That page listed his most recent role—starting in November—as a Remote and Autonomous Systems Manager, which meant was responsible for the “operations, maintenance and integration” of drones in the Army. Norwich University in Vermont was listed as his alma mater, where he graduated with a degree in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis.
Livelsberger occasionally commented on LinkedIn, mostly on posts related to the military and service members. His oldest comment, from five years ago, was to assert that he’d prefer to be gifted a rifle instead of a cash bonus for referring people to an “armed counterintelligence role.”
Livelsberger has ties to the Colorado Springs area, which is where authorities say the Cybertruck involved in Wednesday’s incident was rented from. Officials have confirmed that the man killed in the explosion was a U.S. soldier, but have stopped short of identifying Livelsberger or revealing a possible motive for the chilling blast.
