Written and directed by Kevin Haefelin, and starring Jorge Gabino, The Fuse follows a worn-down garbage man who fights to make a living in the concrete arena of the Bronx. One night, he is unexpectedly laid off and fears becoming a homeless pariah. Amid his final farewell, a blown fuse sends him wandering through the night in search of his destiny.
“The art and precision of short film, when done well, can actually be so much more powerful than a feature length film,” said Matthew Modine. “The director and the script must efficiently and effectively set up characters and circumstances at a rapid pace – all the while making it feel unhurried. Director Kevin Haefelin, his entire cast and crew and producer Youmi Haefelin-Roch achieved what they set out to do. We immediately fall in love and deeply relate to the predicament of their film’s protagonist. The Fuse is also beautifully photographed, has an amazing cast, and a soulful, tap your foot score. I’m so happy that Cinco Dedos Peliculas, Adam Rackoff and I were invited on board.”
The film has played at several film festivals including HollyShorts, PÖFF Shorts, Rhode Island (Best Actor for Jorge Gabino), Cleveland International Film Festival, SCAD Savannah Film Festival, Woodstock Film Festival and New Hampshire where it won the Short Jury Award for Live Action film.
The Fuse is produced by Youmi Hafelin-Roch.
