He’s the 113-year-old doll that’s said to have caused car accidents and broken bones, so it’s no wonder Robert the Doll draws hordes of curious tourists to his Fort East Martello Museum home in Key West, Florida.
Said to be one of the most haunted dolls in the world and the inspiration for the movie Chucky, Robert the Doll has a terrifying past that started when he was a childhood birthday gift to Robert Eugene Otto, also known as Gene.
According to the Atlas Obscura, legend has it Robert the Doll could be heard and seen moving around the house, knocking on furniture, and his expression would change when anyone would badmouth his owner in his earshot.
Gene reportedly also told his family that Robert would destroy other toys in the night, with his parents overhearing him having conversations with the doll and assuming he was putting on two different voices – but soon began to question if their son was.

Robert was left behind in the attic when Gene moved out, with the house later converted into a bed and breakfast.
Noises and laughing were heard at night, with electronic devices said to stop working around him.
After 20 years, he was finally donated to the Florida museum – but his antics haven’t stopped there.
Museum curator Cori Convertito has revealed they receive up to three letters every day, with visitors often writing to apologise for disrespecting Robert during their visit and falling victim to misfortunes they think he’s caused.
