Suits actress Meghan Markle first bumped into her prince charming under the cover of darkness in exclusive London nightclub Soho House back in June 2016. But according to Sunday Night, the 36-year-old had already been on Prince Harry’s radar.
That’s because like himself and his beloved mother Diana, Meghan is a strong supporter of charity and humanitarian work.
The Toronto-based star had just returned from a trip to Rwanda where she was campaigning for their clean water initiative as the face of World Vision Canada.
That would have struck a chord with Harry, as since finding fame, Meghan has dedicated much of her time to changing the lives of vulnerable people - particularly young women - living in the poorest regions of Africa.
Of course Harry’s mother Princess Diana was also a fierce humanitarian and used her status as such a prominent public figure to draw attention to causes such as AIDS and landmines.
She famously visited Angola, in central Africa, on behalf of the British Red Cross in January 1997, just months before her tragic death, with the photo of her walking across a recently cleared landmine area making headlines around the world.
But just like Diana, Meghan’s charity isn’t confined to that continent. The actress has also worked as a United Nations ambassador, travelled to India to support women living in poverty, and written about the stigma many women still face while on their period.
Meghan’s words have also appeared to echo Diana’s spirit, and she’s previously said, “While my life shifts from refugee camps to red carpets, I choose them both because these worlds can, in fact, coexist. And for me, they must.
“I never wanted to be a lady who lunches – I've always wanted to be a woman who works. And this type of work is what feeds my soul, and fuels my purpose.”
Since that fateful night at Soho House, Meghan and Harry’s connection has gone from strength to strength, and after sharing a holiday in Africa earlier this year, they are expected to announce their engagement soon.
