After a whirlwind 'trial' year spent living in America and becoming financially independent, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have now 100% officially confirmed that they'll never be coming back to resume their roles as senior working members of the royal family. While this news likely came as a shock to, err, approximately nobody, it has left royal fans with a few questions – one of which being 'Are Meghan and Harry still the Duke and Duchess of Sussex?'.

The answer to that one is yes, but there has been a slight tweak to their monikers, as they're now no longer allowed to use their former HRH (His or Her Royal Highness) titles. This is because they're no longer carrying out formal royal duties on behalf of the Queen.

A statement released by the Palace on 19 February further confirmed this, as Meghan and Harry are still referred to as 'The Duke and Duchess' throughout: "Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service."

It continued, "The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by The Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of The Royal Family."

The statement finished on a more emotional note, explaining that although the Duke and Duchess's roles have changed, that they're still much missed and loved by Her Majesty and co. "While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family."

Last week it was also announced that Meghan and Harry will be appearing on a special edition of 60 Minutes for a sit-down interview, hosted by Oprah Winfrey (who is a friend and neighbour of the couple - fun fact!).

It's believed that during the interview they'll discuss not only their reasons for taking a backseat from royal life, but Meghan's experience of motherhood (she is currently pregnant with their second child), their plans for the future (the couple recently launched a podcast and signed a Netflix deal) and potentially addressing some of the stories printed about them in tabloid newspapers.

We can't wait to see what's next for the Duke and Duchess!
