She may be now happily married to Prince Harry but before Meghan Markle was swept off her feet by the royal, she was apparently private messaging a UK reality star.

The 37-year-old former Suits actress was looking for love with a British man and when X Factor winner Matt Cardle started following her on Instagram, she slid into his DMs, according to The Sun.

It’s also claimed the now Duchess of Sussex - who just welcomed her first child, Archie Mountbatten Windsor, with Prince Harry - was also flirting up a storm with singer Cheryl Cole’s ex-husband, Ashley Cole.

“Matt followed Meghan initially in early 2015 because he thought she was a beautiful star from Suits,” a source told The Sun.

“But he was stunned when she followed him immediately back and started messaging him.

“Matt couldn’t believe a Hollywood star like Meghan would even know who he was so he was very flattered and they chatted a little bit online before she suggested meeting up.”

In the end, Matt ‘ghosted’ Meghan on the app, because he had just met his girlfriend, Amber Hernaman, and thought the ‘timing was wrong’.

TV presenter Lizzie Cundy also told The Sun that before Meghan met Prince Harry, she ‘pleaded’ with her to help her ‘find a famous British man’.

However, just a few months after the Matt Cardle messages,, Meghan was set up on a blind date with Prince Harry and the rest is history.

Lizzie claims she was then dropped like a hot potato and wasn’t invited to the former actress’s Windsor Castle wedding.

During their official interview with the BBC after they announced their engagement in November, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle beamed with joy as they relayed the story of how they met.

Meghan said she didn’t have much knowledge about Prince Harry or the royal family and asked her friend ‘is he nice’, when they were being set up on their blind date.

“Because if he wasn’t kind it just didn’t seem like it would make sense,” Meghan said.

“We met for a drink, and then I think very quickly into that we said ‘Well, what are we doing tomorrow? We should meet again.”

Prince Harry flew Meghan Markle to Africa with him just weeks later and within months they were engaged.

Appearing in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace to show off Meghan’s whopper engagement ring, Prince Harry said he knew ‘the very first time they met’ that Meghan was the one.
