Meghan Markle Hits Red Carpet in a Favorite Neckline at “Variety” Gala: All About Her Look
The Duchess of Sussex seems to favor the style for special nights out
Meghan Markle had a stylish night out at Variety's Power of Women gala!
The Duchess of Sussex, 42, stepped out solo for the Los Angeles event on Thursday, marking a full-circle moment after being named one of Variety’s Power of Women honorees in 2022. Last year’s celebration was held on Sept. 28, and Meghan did not attend following the death of Queen Elizabeth on Sept. 8.
Meghan wore a beige one-shoulder midi dress with slit hem by Proenza Schouler and completed the look with a black clutch and Aquazzura heels — the same brand of shoes she wore on her royal wedding day to Prince Harry in 2018 and has frequently sported since. The Duchess of Sussex swept her hair back in a bun and added small gold hoop earrings — and the sleek fashion statement marked her latest time in a favorite neckline!
The Duchess of Sussex has worn trendy one-shoulder dresses for two awards ceremonies before. While she was pregnant with Prince Archie, Meghan wore a black asymmetrical Givenchy gown to the British Fashion Awards in London in December 2018. She presented her wedding dress designer Clare Waight Keller with the British Designer of the Year award during the surprise appearance, and the two shared a sweet hug on stage.

A few years later, Meghan chose a one-shoulder turquoise and blue gown by Christopher John Rogers for the NAACP Image Awards in February 2022. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared to accept the President's Award in recognition of special achievement and distinguished public service. Through the Archewell Foundation, which they launched in 2020 following their step back from their royal roles in the U.K., Prince Harry and Meghan have supported efforts to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and focused their attention on the Black Lives Matter movement and fighting for racial justice.
While Prince Harry, 39, did not attend the Power of Women event in L.A. on Thursday night, Meghan affectionately referenced her husband during an interview on the red carpet. When Variety’s senior entertainment writer Angelique Jackson asked Meghan what’s driving her new projects in the entertainment space, the Duchess of Sussex mentioned positive content and said Prince Harry was “loving it too.”

The Duchess of Sussex’s appearance at the gala came as a shock to everyone on the red carpet. During the ceremony, Meghan stood and clapped for all the honorees and their presenters.
“She kept intently focused on the program the whole time and didn’t seem to talk to anyone at her table,” says an onlooker.
This year's Power of Women honorees are Fantasia Barrino, Billie Eilish, Lily Gladstone and Carey Mulligan. LuckyChap co-founders Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara were awarded the Producer of the Year award.
