Meghan Markle recently wrapped up the 2023 Invictus Games in Germany with Prince Harry
Meghan Markle surprised women and children at a community cafe in Düsseldorf before heading back to California.
Photos of the Duchess of Sussex, 42, appeared on the Instagram story of TrebeCafé on Tuesday showing Meghan interacting with some community members. TrebeCafé, which supports women and girls who are homeless, shared photos of the Duchess interacting with a little girl and smiling for a photo with a woman.
A spokesperson from TrebeCafé confirmed to PEOPLE that Meghan visited the cafe on Sept. 13 and spoke to staff and visitors, who the organization supports in living a self-reliant life.
"The young women were very surprised by the visit and the fact that a celebrity takes time to talk to them," the spokesperson exclusively tells PEOPLE. "The Duchess also joined in preparing lunch for the young women and their children. She was very open and approachable, and we are very thankful that we had the opportunity to welcome her."
Meghan’s visit came as she joined her husband, Prince Harry, for the 2023 Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, which the Duke of Sussex founded in 2014 for wounded, sick or injured service personnel and veterans.
Harry arrived in Germany before his wife to kick off the event. Meghan reunited with him at the Family & Friends party on Sept. 12. Giving a speech, Meghan apologized for being a “little late for the party” and revealed that she had to get her children Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2, settled at home, according to Hello! magazine.
“Getting milkshakes, doing school drop off and then I just landed a couple of hours ago,” she explained. “I am thrilled that the first event that I can do with Invictus is here with all of you.”
They spent the next few days in the stands at sporting events, from wheelchair basketball to swimming.
Friday was an extra special occasion: Prince Harry's 39th birthday! At the sitting volleyball game between Poland and Germany, he was serenaded with a rendition of "Happy Birthday."
They also marked the big day with an outing at a local brewery the night before. The couple ate Weiner Schnitzel, blood sausage and German sausages, the restaurant said in an Instagram post, calling the group "very likable people."

On Saturday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the closing ceremony.
Prince Harry took the stage and gave a speech as the ceremony came to a close.
"We've all witnessed the true impact sport has had on your recovery. But you will never truly know the impact your actions this week have had on millions of people around the world," the Duke of Sussex said. "You have opened people’s hearts, through your vulnerability, through your resilience and your sheer abilities. You have shown us that joy can emerge from struggle."
