Meghan Markle praised after mourner appears to ignore her: ‘Ridiculous’

Meghan Markle has been praised after a woman in the large crowd paying their respects to Queen Elizabeth II appeared to turn away from her.

Markle, her husband Prince Harry, and Prince William and wife Kate — now the Prince and Princess of Wales — greeted thousands of people gathered outside Windsor Castle on Saturday.

The “walkabout” is the first time the brothers have appeared together amicably since March 2020, but their reunion wasn’t the only thing that got people talking.

Photos show Markle hugging members of the public and crouching down to receive flowers from children, however not everyone appeared pleased to see her.

In a video clip that has gone viral on Twitter, the mum of two can be seen shaking the hands of several young women lining a metal barrier.

But as she approaches a woman in a blue shirt, the mourner diverts her gaze and ignores Markle, who moves on to the next person.

The mourner appears to also turn her body away from Markle during the frosty moment.

Numerous people online have said the “lady in blue” seemed to be “having none of it”.

While some people praised the mourner’s reaction, several others have praised Markle’s response to the dismissal.

“So this is Meghan Markle trying to shake hands with the British public. She gets ignored, laughed at and humiliated,” one woman wrote.

Author Reana Malori argued that Markle wasn’t fazed by the “one lone bitter woman”.

“Meghan read the room. She doesn’t care if one person doesn’t want to shake her hand. She wasn’t embarrassed or humiliated…that woman looks ridiculous and petty,” she tweeted.

“No one cares about her and I’m glad Meghan ignored her.”

Another said the mourner’s behaviour was “rude and classless”.

“Regardless of what you think of [Markle]. It’s respect,” they added.

Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin travels through Scotland

In a somber, regal procession, Queen Elizabeth II’s flag-draped coffin was driven slowly through the Scottish countryside on Sunday from her beloved Balmoral Castle to the Scottish capital of Edinburgh.

Mourners packed city streets and highway bridges or lined rural roads with cars and tractors to take part in a historic goodbye to the monarch who had reigned for 70 years.

The hearse drove past piles of bouquets and other tributes as it led a seven-car cortege from Balmoral, where the queen died Thursday at 96, for a six-hour trip through Scottish towns to Holyroodhouse Palace in Edinburgh.

The late queen’s coffin was draped in the Royal Standard for Scotland and topped with a wreath made of flowers from the estate, including sweet peas, one of the queen’s favourites.

The procession was a huge event for Scotland as the UK takes days to mourn its longest-reigning monarch, the only one most Britons have ever known. People turned out hours early to grab a space by the police barricades in Edinburgh. By afternoon, the crowds were 10 people deep.

King Charles III and his Queen Consort Camilla will travel Monday to Edinburgh to join another solemn procession that takes the queen’s coffin to St. Giles Cathedral on the city’s Royal Mile.

There the coffin will remain for 24 hours so the Scottish public can pay their respects before it is flown to London on Tuesday.
