Speculation that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may be adding to their new family has run rife of late, and now palace insiders have broken their silence.

US Weekly reports that despite the speculation a palace source has definitively shut the rumour down, saying the pair are not pregnant.

Another source, however, reignited hope among fans of the couple by teasing a new addition was on the cards in the very near future.

“Their family is their number one priority,” the source reportedly told the magazine.

The rumour first surfaced following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s appearance at the Festival of Remembrance at the weekend, alongside the rest of the royal family.

Almost mirroring her trademark move through her pregnancy with now-six-month-old Archie, Meghan was seen placing her hand over her belly several times throughout the evening.

The flurry of rumours surrounding the couple and hope for a new bub is a heartwarming end to what has been a tumultuous year for the royals.

A controversial year for the young royals

Meghan and Harry welcomed Baby Archie in June this year, but a few controversial decisions left them hounded by detractors.

The outspoken environmental activists also came under fire after they took a number of flights by private jet while on holidays.

In August this year, the daughter of Mail on Sunday owner Viscount Jonathan Rothermere labelled the duchess ‘hypocritical’ before demanding her supporters ‘grow up’ in an Instagram post.

The following month, Australian TV program 60 Minutes was widely condemned for its ‘exposé’ on Meghan, which many branded a “character assassination”.

Later in the year Meghan announced her decision to sue The Mail on Sunday over the publication of a private letter.

The overwhelming year has seen the pair steer clear of the spotlight, choosing to spend Christmas with Meghan’s mother in the US in an understandable move after the turmoil.

Rumours of strained relationships all over the royal family

Despite the concerted effort to normalise the move in the palace’s announcement, Harry and Meghan’s absence will no doubt reignite whispers of strained relationships within the family, as it comes just weeks after Harry finally addressed rumours of a reported rift with his brother Prince William.

The Duke of Sussex opened up in a documentary about him and his wife’s recent tour of Africa, claiming him and William are ‘certainly on different paths’ and admitting, ‘Inevitably stuff happens’.

Not to mention the royal family has far bigger fish to fry, still navigating the fallout surrounding Prince Andrews alleged involvement with Jeffery Epstein and allegations of sexual assault made against the prince.
