Update: March 27, 2020
Now that everyone knows about Meghan’s new venture, sources are clearing up the timeline and how Meghan got involved. According to Hello!, Meghan had already recorded her narration before Prince Harry spoke with Disney CEO Bob Iger at The Lion King premiere. Apparently, filmmakers Mark and Vanessa Berlowitz approached her during summer 2019 and Meghan recorded the voice-over in the fall in exchange for Disney donating to Elephants Without Borders.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will officially end their duties as royals at the end of the month, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to stop contributing to causes that are important to them. As Meghan’s first post-royal gig, she’s going to help elephants by being in a new Disney+ movie aptly called Elephant. Just gonna call it now and say she already deserves an Oscar for it.
Here’s everything you need to know about your favorite actress/duchess’s new venture: Yes, this all began when Meghan first started acting as a child, but this Disney deal really kicked off in 2016 when Meghan met mutual friends of the filmmakers and last year at The Lion King premiere. Aside from talking to Beyoncé, Meghan and Harry also spoke with Disney CEO Bob Iger. In a video from the event, Harry can be heard telling Bob, “You know she does voice-overs? Did you know that? You seemed surprised, but yeah, she’s really interested.” Like a wise man, Bob said, “Sure, we’d love to try.”
After months of wondering what would come of that interaction, Disney+ announced it tapped Meghan to narrate the new movie, which “follows African elephant Shani and her son Joao as their heard made an epic journey across the Kalashnikov Desert.” The movie will premiere in celebration of Earth Month and will aid Elephants Without Borders.
Predictably, royal fans are already freaking out about this news:

According to royal commentator Omid Scobie, Meghan doesn’t have any other deals with Disney as of now, but this is obviously a great start.
